The Israelites and the tour group now find themselves in the desert. God told Moses that He would take care of them and provide them with everything that they need. He led them with a pillar of cloud by day, which would give them shade, and a pillar of fire by night, which would keep them warm and also protect them from any attack. He also led them the long way, going around the Philistines, because God knew that the Israelites couldn’t face an attack. God made it very clear that the Israelites are no longer slaves and they don’t belong to the Egyptians; they belong to God now and it’s up to Him to protect them.
Casey, the movie star, got very upset because movie stars don’t go camping in the desert. She gave up most of her luggage already but she could not go through the desert. She is a movie star and so she can’t go on this trip anymore. Casey started throwing things and crying but it finally came out that she was scared, because she’s never gone camping before and she feels all alone. Amelia and Sherry explained that because she is on this trip, with the tour group, she is a traveler. She belongs to the group and so it’s up to Amelia to take care of her. Sherry then explained that this is like us with God. Who we are is not based on what we do. Who we are is based on God and what He does. We are God’s children. That’s our identity. And it’s up to God to take care of us.
To help Casey understand, Amelia taught her a memory verse, 2 Corinthians 1:22, which says “He put his Spirit in our hearts and marked us as his own. We can now be sure that he will give us everything he promised us."
