We looked at the story of the tower of Babel today. After the flood, God instructed Noah and his family to spread out across the earth and have kids. But a lot of them ended up gathering in one place instead and were very concerned about their reputation. They decided to build a tower, so they could defend themselves, instead of trusting God to keep them safe. God didn't like this at all because they were doing it all in their own strength, so he made everyone speak different languages and they gave up building the tower because they couldn't understand each other.
We saw a second story about two people who wanted to open up a homeless shelter, without hearing from God about the idea. Since it was such a good thing to do they clearly didn't need to get God's help. God looked at their efforts and explained that He wasn't pleased with them at all because they were doing everything in their own strength. We learned that good work that doesn't come from God's strength is just useless.
It's so exciting to see the kids memorizing the verses each week! The candy jar is quickly filling with skittles. Keep it up everyone!
