This week, we talked about waiting. It's really hard to wait but God often has us in times of waiting. Our response to waiting comes from whether we are trusting God or not. A lot of the time, we want to be doing something, but that always makes a mess.
We showed the kids a few Bible stories where people had to wait. One story was about Abraham and Sarah, who really wanted a baby. God promised them He would give them one, but they had to wait for such a long time that Abraham and Sarah got impatient. They tried to make God's plan happen themselves and caused a lot of problems. They didn't trust God in their time of waiting.
Another story was about David, before he was king. God had promised that he would be king one day but Saul was still king, so David had to wait. One day, as Saul was looking for David, to kill him, David had the chance to kill Saul. David's friends urged him to kill Saul so that he could be the new king. But David refused, because he knew that God would fulfill His promise and He didn't need David to help him do it. David trusted God.
We saw a heart doctor skit, to finish things off. Two patients were in the waiting room and one was sitting patiently. She had been through terrible things, but was still waiting for God, because she trusted Him. The other patient got increasingly frustrated, trying to bribe the receptionist and yelling a lot. He finally got so frustrated and impatient that he stormed out of the waiting room.
God puts us in times of waiting and that can be quite hard, because we like for things to happen right away. But being in a time of waiting teaches us to trust and rely on God.
