This Sunday was a bit different, as our entire team was at Camp Squeah. We started the morning with the first part of a craft. We gave each of the children a piece of tea-dyed paper, and got them to drip dark tea spots onto the paper. This would create continents, and eventually, they would create a map of themselves, of different things that are a part of their life.
Mimic the fox came out and began to tell the kids how much God loves him, and only him. Because God loves him so much, Mimic started to list off all the things he wanted God to do for him. Sherry interrupted him and explained that Jesus actually died for everyone, and loves everyone. Sometimes people start to think selfishly like Mimic was, and like to keep God's love all for themselves. But that's not right. Mimic apologized and then learned John 3:16 with the kids.
Sherry then showed the kids how God loved everyone and wanted everyone to hear about him. So in Acts, He used the persecution of the apostles for good, because they scattered everywhere and shared Jesus with everyone as they fled. We did a few activities to illustrate this, where two kids, holding skittles, started close together and were chased around by two others. As the first two kids ran around, they gave skittles to everyone else; everyone else was sitting around the room to represent different countries. Eventually, everyone had skittles; the skittles represented hearing about Jesus.
Then we showed the kids various scenarios, such as a new kid has come to school and has no friends, or mom is very busy and just broke a dish. The kids got to come up on stage and show how they would show Jesus in that situation.
We finished the morning by returning to the maps. Everyone outlined the dark spots to create continents and islands, and then labeled everything. We once again told the kids to think about how Jesus can spread out into their world.
